I wanted to. But nope, it didn't happen.

Work was busy-busy. I had an audit to perform with one of our auditor trainees and it was a good bit more in-depth than I expected. I'd blocked out 2 hours for it and it ended up being 2 1/2 hours and I didn't even get the report written up. Oh well, it is what it is.

And then when I got home there was stuff to do with the hubby and things to clean up and a long walk after dinner so I didn't get much written at all. Only 1200 words. I am up to 14K, though, so I'm not worried about it. Not sure that I'm going to keep the twist that I just put into the story. I think it's too soon for it. Or maybe it's not right yet. We'll see. I'll think it over, sleep on it and then write more tomorrow.

Hopefully without cutting the words I wrote today.

Didn't get more homemade Lush made. I might go nuke some cocoa butter and mix it with jojoba oil before I run my bath, just to see how that goes. But probably not.

Goals for tomorrow include writing, getting the POD version of this week's story done since it didn't happen tonight, exercises, and maybe, if I have time, homemade Lush products.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Another busy day

Work was busy enough, between meetings, that I got not one word written even on breaks. I did get 2400 words after dinner. Sinead has dealt with the issue of the transwoman and is now dealing with a surprising issue with her mother. Should be interesting to see how that plays out. I've no idea how long this story is going to be but right now I'm above 12K and just barely started. Just have to keep on writing until I find the ending.

And see if my internal sense that this all ties back into Sinead's Delbhana relatives is correct. Which would be cool if I can make it work out.

We'll see.

Got my steps today because the hubby had his mid-year performance review and needed to to babble while walking it off.

I'm kind of noodling on a new world in the back of my head. I'm not sure I'll actually write it anytime soon, though. I want to combine harems and veils with temperate rain forests like in the Puget Sound but I'm not sure how to do that yet. I need to figure out clothes and food and terrain and maybe draw a map or something. You know, in my copious amounts of spare time. I did do some doodles of potential ways of doing the veils (think bamboo / reed / straw woven hats that people wear all the time) but I don't know that I'd want to do it that way. Would everyone wear hats all the time? How would that affect their society? How the hell would I describe people's expressions???

I don't know. I'm still pondering it for now. More sketching may be necessary.

The one thing I did get done this morning before work started was that I got this week's short story into ebook format. Now all I have left is the POD format and I'll be ready to upload on Thursday. That's good even though no one is really buying the series. *sad sigh* Don't care. I enjoyed writing it and I'm going to share it even if no one sees and cares for a good long time.

Goals for tomorrow include writing, finishing the POD, exercises, making homemade Lush products, and that's about it.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

...mostly because of a very different verbal pattern from my own. But it's going. I got 2500 words today and Sinead's into the mystery. Actually two mysteries that she's not aware yet are related. I've no idea how they're related yet but yeah, they're related. Somehow. I'll find out as I write.

And I have an official transwoman character in the story so now I have to figure out how Atalyan society feels about trans people. But that's a job for tomorrow. My eyes are burning. It's definitely time to get off the computer.

Not to mention that my torn fingernail on my pinky is not making typing fun at all.

Got my steps today, which is good. Not so good is that I forgot that my mother's birthday is on Wednesday and I didn't buy her a birthday card this weekend. So it's going to get there late. Darn it.

Goals for tomorrow include sending out the card, writing, exercises, preparing for the audit this week, and maybe making some more Lush replacements in the evening. We'll see how I feel tomorrow after work.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

It's a Matriarchies of Muirin novel, set in the far north of Atalya with Delbhana Sinead (from Repair and Rebuild and Running From the Storm) as the POV character. Except she's not Delbhana anymore. She's Dana. And on her own in Atalya because she can't go home if she wants to live.

I'm planning on a mystery of sorts but right now I don't know just how mystery-like it'll be. I'm going to give it my best and see what happens.

Also, I turned in the first novel of the challenge. I'm 100% going to forget about it, not think about it in anyway, because otherwise I'll worry myself to a frazzle and that does no one any good. Especially me.

Yesterday the hubby and I went on a nice long bike ride only to discover afterwards that the tires on our bikes were dramatically low. Very annoying and much more work than it should have been. We fixed it and the bikes seem fine. My legs, not so much.

Today was laundry day and somehow I managed to tear my right pinky nail right into the quick taking clothes out of the laundry. A good quarter of an inch into the quick. So I've got a bandaid over it and I'm really not enjoying typing right now. Especially hitting enter or backspace. Darn it all.

Can't be helped but man, I really wish I hadn't done that.

Goals for tomorrow include writing, chicken and rice for dinner, exercises, and getting this week's story ready for formatting.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

OH GOD I ACTUALLY FINISHED SLAVEFIC #5

It is a smidge over 49k and, uh, it is going to hurt. A lot.

I would apologize in advance but this is serious “time to own that actually you just like making your characters and readers suffer” territory. :D:

…I was traveling to visit family last Sunday and sort of forgot that Sunday was happening in the haze of spending several hours with my parents and then several hours discussing my parents with my brothers. Oops?

But now I am home again! And writing things! And talking about them on Tumblr!

WIPs currently active: 5, because I finished Little Bitty #2!!

Words written this week fortnight: 12,611, which was one really good week and one kinda meh week, so it balances out. :D

WIPs that got no words this week: 3 - broken dick epic, Born in the Blood, sequel to “Ring the Bell Backward”. Which is what happens when I frantically attempt to FINISH THINGS that are either v. close to finishing or HAVE ACTUAL DEADLINES OH GOD.

WIPs that did get words this week:

Little Bitty #2 (Jemmie): 1,628 and DONE!!! at just over 10k. And… will… definitely get betaed and posted! Someday! When I find a minute in between ALL THE OTHER THINGS.

Slavefic #5 (THE DRAMATIC REUNION): 7,344, and I am in the middle of the FINAL CHAPTER OH MAN I AM SO CLOSE TO FINISHING!!!! Also it’s just over 46k, so apparently it’s not, uh, going to be appreciably shorter than Sink Right to the Floor, which for a while I had thought it would be. Ahahaha why would anything ever be short, why would I even dream of that. /o\

Dragon!Bucky/Tribute!Steve Cap Reverse Big Bang Story: 3,639, and getting! really! close! to being! done! which is good because I post in less than two weeks!! :DDD:

For Real

DNF. M/M romance about the uptight emergency services doctor who sort of accidentally picks up a nineteen-year-old top at a kink mixer.

I should have liked this. It's well-observed and thoughtful and unashamed of its kinks, of which it has many. And it's playing with tropes in a way I appreciate – the financial and class and experiential power in this relationship is all with the sub, which is frankly refreshing. But it also hit a lot of my hard cringe embarrassment squicks. There's the classic 'mistaken for father and son,' for one thing.

The thing is, though, that I'm having one of those years where I don't seem to like half the things I'm reading, and I have no idea if that has anything to do with the actual books. Instead of just being an artifact of the year I'm having. As an example, June is on pace to be the month with the highest billable hours in my entire career, and my father is about to die, and my dog is retiring. So what the fuck do I know at this point? Not much.

The Whitefire Crossing

2/5. Fantasy about the smuggler hired to get a runaway mage across the mountains to the sort of rival magical city.

Meh. It's not just that this book alternates between first person and close third, which is one of those things you can totally do . . . if you have a reason for it. There is no reason here.

It's not just that. It's mostly that there's a pattern to the women in this book, such as they are. They're either tortured and murdered to fuel male angst . . . or kept as an unwitting hostage by one man to control another . . . or lied to and shuffled offstage the moment the plot starts happening to keep them safe or . . . actually, I think I've run out of women.

Finished the novel!

Whoot! One novel down out of the three I wanted to write for the challenge. :D I wrote about 3800 words today, finishing the novel out at 51,500 words, give or take a few.

I'll give the ending (probably the whole thing) a read-over tomorrow and then it's off to the person running the challenge so he can read it and let me know what he thinks. Then I'll be biting my nails for a week waiting to hear back. *groan*

So of course I've already decided what to write next because damn it, I'm not losing my streak and I'm definitely not going to fuss over the feedback. Derail myself big time if I did.

The next novel will be another Muirin novel, this time set in Atlaya with Delbhana Sinead as the POV character. I'm going to throw a mystery of some sort at her and have her solve it, then move on to another port, another country, like the lone wolf she is. If it works out, it's the start of a series of novels about "Dana Sinead" slowly working her way back to Aingeal and Raelin's side.

Yes, I have plans for that. Eventually. I have a couple, maybe three or so, more novels to write before I get there. Completely aside from rewriting Daughter of Chaos and Gwen's thing with the Ladies. (Those are up free on my DW if you're curious. Go digging for Daughter of Chaos and Saving the Dana.) *grin*

I did get my steps today. Getting groceries will do that. I'm hoping that the weather is nice enough for the hubby and I to go do something tomorrow. No idea if it will be. It's kind of rainy and grey today so hiking or biking don't sound like fun at all.

Either way, goals for tomorrow include starting the next novel, exercises, something fun, reading over the novel I just finished and sending it off. That's about it.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!
